The Wind of God
In my 1st sermon of the year, I gave a strong exhortation to the church to “get up on deck,” in preparation for the wind of the Lord. In fact, you may remember that the Lord gave a strong prophetic confirmation through JC May. Before I began to speak, JC turned to Dora and said, “Song of Songs 4:16 [+/-].” That verse reads,
16 Awake, O north wind,
and come, O south wind!
Blow upon my garden,
let its spices flow.
Let my beloved come to his garden,
and eat its choicest fruits.
Get this - my message was entitled The Wind of God! The basic gist of the message was that we are drifting a bit as a church, and need to be at the ready. This is going to be a year of deep change, restructuring, reshaping. When I asked God what we were to do to get ready for the wind, I felt two things: 1) do what we already know to do, only better, and 2) pray. In light of that, we are really concentrating on prayer and outreach. You’ll see these emphases in the schedule below:
- PRAYERWALK - This Saturday (the 19th), gather at the building at 10am
- PRAYER JOURNEY - next week
- FRIDAY NIGHT PRAISE AND PRAYER - next Friday night (THE 25TH), 7pm
Details:
Prayerwalk: prayerwalking is where a groups splits up into groups of 2 or three. Then, the groups walk around and pray over homes and businesses. It is a great way to pray, because it makes the prayer personal. Prophetically, we see ourselves as taking the ground, claiming it for Christ. When we do this Saturday, we’ll concentrate on the neighborhoods close to our building. We’ll pray in a quiet way through these neighborhoods. If it is cold, we’ll do it anyway!
Prayer Journey: I’ll talk more about this Sunday. We’ll set up prayer stations around the building, and design a journey of prayer from station to station that should last around an hour to pray through. We’ll culminate in a corporate prayer meeting that Friday night at 7pm. I need help setting up the prayer journey stations! If you’d like to help, please email me ( swcotten@gmail.com).
I feel that if we concentrate on prayer this month, God will prepare us for the things he has in store for us this year. The wind will blow, and it will propel us forward. Home groups leaders, please do what you can to help me promote and communicate about these things. Thanks so much!
God bless you,
Sam
